Acupuncture, as an alternative medical practice, is now making headway in the Western world. It is now accepted as a drug-free treatment and method of stress relief.

Practiced in China for more than 2,000 years, acupuncture is a therapeutic system that makes use of sterilized needles for the purpose of restoring the body?s equilibrium. The needles are inserted on specific vital points that correspond to a specific internal organ. The light insertion of the needle into a vital point is supposed to free the flow of internal energy or ?chi.? According to Chinese medical theory, any blockage in the flow of chi in the body?s ?energy streams? or meridians can an imbalance in the body — resulting to an illness. The natural flow of chi ensures a person’s general state of health. The focus of acupuncture is on restoring harmony in the flow of the chi throughout the body and, in the process, balancing the metaphysical concepts of yin and yang.

Acupuncture is used to treat a wide range of ailments such as nausea, sinusitis, migraine headaches, lower back pain, knee pain, and chronic pain. Ancient Chinese texts also claim that the acupuncture can be used to treat minor mental and emotional problem such as anxiety disorder. For this reason, some even compare the Traditional Chinese Medicine method of acupuncture to the Western medical discipline of psychology. Both are seen as similar disciplines or therapy methods that have a positive effect on the mental health of patients.

The true benefits of acupuncture are found in its efficacy as a non-invasive, drug-free means of alleviating a number of physical ailments. It is also used in conjunction with traditional Chinese herbal cures that are perceived to be as effective as modern pills and medication. Acupuncture is concerned not only with providing cure to specific ailments. It is also used to determine the causes of physical discomforts and illnesses. Acupuncture practitioners make use of body charts that show the meridians or channels where internal energy flows to different parts of the body. These meridians correspond to the Western medicine layout of the central nervous system and circulatory system.

Studies are still being made by Western doctors and other scientists to determine the efficacy of this Eastern alternative form of healing. Even if acupuncture already accepted in different parts of the world as an alternative healing method, some quarters are still skeptical about its long-term effects.

While there are still no research findings that make the curative claims about acupuncture absolutely undisputable, it is interesting to note the depth of understanding that the Chinese had about the inner workings of the human body thousands of years before the formal organization and practice of Western medicine. Perhaps, one day, scientists will finally prove that the differences between Eastern and Western medicine is found mostly in culture and terminology; and that both systems are actually alike in terms of philosophy and theory in the use of the needle as a tool for healing.

For Mrs. Cooper, life in sunny California in her modest home has become a tug-of-war of aches and pains for this housewife of forty. A mother of five and at the same time managing a home business, she found it very challenging to keep a home and manage a business at the same time while suffering from lower back pains and migraine headaches.

She tried using the traditional medicines prescribed by her doctor but it seems that these only provided temporary relief. One day, her cousin Meredith recommended that she try other alternative medicines to cure her ailments.

At first, Mrs. Cooper was skeptical since she knew that Meredith was into new age stuff like meditation, yoga, organics, herbal medicines, and vegetarianism. She felt she was entering into new, unfamiliar territory. But upon her cousin’s insistence, she tried this ancient Chinese practice called acupuncture.

Acupuncture is a procedure that treats illness through the insertion of needles at specific points in the body. This process is said to alter the body’s energy flow into healthier patterns and used to treat a variety of illnesses and heath conditions. According to the World Health Organization (who) acupuncture is an effective treatment for ?over forty? medical problems such as chronic pain, headaches and those associated with problems like back injuries and arthritis. But it is limited in treating conditions like broken bones or that requires surgery.

IS ACUPUNCTURE SAFE?

Just make sure you?re getting this treatment from a well-trained acupuncturist and that the acupuncture needles are sterile and disposable. Undergoing this kind of treatment is like receiving an injection. You only feel pain from injections if it is larger diameter and it is a hollow needle. While acupuncture needles are very fine and about the diameter of human hair. When properly inserted by a skilled practitioner, you won’t feel pain. However, you may experience a sense of electricity in the area of insertion. This kind of treatment for most patients find it relaxing and more often they fall asleep during treatment.

THE BASIC PHILOSOPHY OF CHINESE MEDICINE

Alternative Chinese medicine like acupuncture views the body as tiny part of the universe, and subject to universal laws of harmony and balance. The Chinese believe that emotions and mental states play a role in causing diseases. Illnesses are also affected by other factors like the environment, lifestyle, and relationships. Acupuncture is based on the Taoist philosophy of yin and yang and the chi. The chi, or cosmic energy, is an invisible force found in the air, water, food and sunlight. In the body, it is a vital force that creates and animates life.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN VISITING ACUPUNCTURIST

Like a Western medical practitioner, the first thing an acupuncturist will do is to get the patient’s medical history and symptoms. This will be followed by a physical examination. He or she will be looking closely at the patient’s tongue, pulse, complexion, general behavior, and other signs like coughs or pains. From this, the acupuncturist will be able to determine patterns of symptoms indicating which organs are imbalanced. Acupuncture needles are always sterilized and it is a safe procedure.

In most cases, acupuncture does work ad relieves pain by helping stimulate the release endorphins into the bloodstream.

There is an undeniable mystique that accompanies Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM, a range of traditional medical and therapeutic practices developed in China over thousands of years.

In fact, one of the earliest known compilations on Chinese medical practices dates back to 2698 B.C. To the uninformed, it is assumed that TCM is all about the use of exotic products such as bat excrement and cow urine as medicine. Many also wrongly assume that the diagnosis and treatment offered by TCM practitioners is nothing more than just guesswork; and that these practitioners do not really have actual abilities to discern the patient’s symptoms.

In truth, Traditional Chinese Medicine is a complex and centuries-old system that has been shown to be effective in the treatment and management of various ailments ranging from sinusitis to muscle spasms. Chinese herbal concoctions have also shown efficacy in providing migraine reliefs and lower back pain relief, and everything in between.

The core concepts of traditional Chinese medicine can be found in Chinese philosophy, with Wu Xing and the concept of yin and yang as the primary foundations of both diagnosis and treatment practices. The basic perception of the body in Chinese medicine is that it is a whole, but with separate parts. The parts are designed to work together in harmony, generally by balancing their naturally opposing concepts against one another. Each part not only serves a physical function, but is also important to mental processes. This explains the belief in Chinese medicine that what affects one’s physical health also has consequences for one’s mental health, with each imbalance in the body having a counterpart imbalance in the mind. This aspect echoes the principles of yin and yang, which is best summarized as a blending of two opposing but complimentary concepts, with neither one being superior in any way over the other. Disharmony is said to occur when yin or yang becomes more prevalent in the body than the other. This disharmony or imbalance is thought to be the reason behind human illnesses.

The Wu Xing aspect comes into play in terms of analyzing how the disharmony came about. Wu Xing is similar to the classical concept of the basic elements which are composed of fire, water, wood, earth, and metal. Each of these elements can be found in the body, with varying concentrations in different areas of the body. Combined, the elements produce a delicate balance and results in the normal state of a person’s physical and mental health. This balance can be affected by internal and external factors, which can sway the elemental balance in a variety of ways. In theory, an increase in certain elements in areas that perform certain functions can sway the yin and yang balance, thus affecting a person’s health.

The treatment for the condition, whether it be sinusitis, lower back pain, knee pain, migraine headaches, visual migraines, insomnia or whatever else ails the patient is ultimately determined by where the imbalance is and what caused it. For example, an excess of water that swayed the balance more to the yang in the nasal area is sometimes cited to cause problems such as colds and sinusitis. To counter this, a traditional Chinese doctor might prescribe a formula composed of herbs and more exotic ingredients to help suppress the water element and, thus, restore balance to the yin and yang.

Traditional Chinese medicine also espouses a number of other treatments, including those based on the manipulation of the patient’s diet.

Another famous aspect or branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine is called acupuncture, a technique that involves the insertion of needles into the skin on specific points around the body to help restore ?balance? between the Yin and Yang. Acupuncture is also the branch of TCM that is concerned with the treatment of what Western medicine would term as mental health disorders including anxiety and phobias. Acupuncture is seen as an effective means of balancing the flow of ?chi? or internal energy throughout the body. In TCM, the need to balance the yin and yang of the mind and heart is as important as attaining balance in the human body.

Modern TCM practitioners in China, however, do acknowledge that there are situations when the traditional remedies can no longer put the body back in proper balance. In most cases, when such situations are encountered, the patient is advised to consult a doctor who practices Western medicine. However, this does not create a conflict between the two schools since most Chinese patients and doctors actually appreciate the ?balance? between Eastern and Western medical theory and practice. For example, Chinese people will have no problems with surgery for appendicitis. At the same time, they will see no conflict in using traditional herbal formulas to help recover after the surgery, or to prevent the appendicitis in the first place. This is often in sharp contrast to the attitude of some practitioners of traditional Western medicine who tends to dismiss other medical philosophies, theories or schools as mere quackery.

Acupuncture: the practice of inserting ultra fine needles into the body with the goal of restoring health and well-being to the mind, body and spirit. Sound like new-age hogwash to you? Well think again.

It?s been an excepted form of Eastern medicine for thousands of years but has just recently found its way into doctor?s offices in the United States. Three years ago, the Food and Drug Administration estimated between 9 and 12 million people underwent acupuncture therapy - and the statistic is steadily climbing.

The practice of treating chronic pain with acknowledgement to the body?s network of energy is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, with documented theories of blood flow, pulse, and the heart 4,000 years before European medicine had even conceptualized circulation. Acupuncture treats the body as a whole, with energy forces that travel along ?Meridians? or special pathways. Health is influenced by this flow of energy, called Qi (pronounced chee), combined with the opposing yet inseparable forces of Yin and Yang. Insufficient Qi can disturb the body?s equilibrium of Yin and Yang; the imbalance leading to pain and disease.

The stainless steel acupuncture needles restore balance by stimulating anatomical points along the body and can be accompanied by heat or electric stimuli. Acupuncture can also be complimented with other non-traditional therapies such as Acupressure, which is the basis for massage therapy.

On a more concrete level, there are several theories as to why acupuncture works. One theory is that acupuncture stimulates endorphin and serotonin levels, both of which are vital to the function the central nervous system. Another is that it raises anti-bodies such as triglycerides and white blood cells, which of course benefit the immune system.

However the most popular theory is the ?Gate Theory.? The body?s nervous system regulates impulses, which is then interpreted as pain. Small nerve fibers, known as ?C? fibers are the first ?gate.? Once the gate is hit with too many impulses (i.e., acupuncture,) it becomes overwhelmed and shuts down. This prevents other impulses from getting through, hence you have pain relief.

Those who benefit most from acupuncture tend to be chronically ill or experience long term pain. It has also been found to be successful in cases of anxiety, depression, allergic reactions and addictions. Studies have shown good evidence that the practice is especially successful in treating nausea associated with chemotherapy, as well as chronic low back and arthritis pain. They have found moderate evidence for neck pain and headaches.

Side effects can vary and are usually not severe, mostly resulting in dizziness or light-headedness. As a treatment, acupuncture can be more accessible and affordable than conservative medicine, with less severe side effects from drugs and surgeries.

Doctors and scientists anchored in theories of Western medicine vary on their thoughts concerning acupuncture and associated studies. There are many medical professionals who argue that the studies are ill-formed, poorly designed and lack a sufficient placebo or sham acupuncture. Those who believe in its success qualify its attributes as an effective and safe therapy to use in conjunction with other therapies.

The National Institute of Health and the Office of Alternative Medicine are in general agreement with government reports that acupuncture is safe when administered by a well-trained licensed professional. For more information on acupuncture or to find a practitioner near you call the Academy of Medical Acupuncture, 1.800.521.2262.

Hormones are a proven way for male to female transsexuals and transgenderists to develop breasts. The male body reacts strongly to female hormones and by duplicating the hormonal conditions of an adolescent girl, it is possible for most males to experience significant breast growth.

What most males don’t understand, however, is that there is more to the equation than estrogen. Complete breast development depends upon four essential hormones:

1.	Estrogen
2.	Prolactin
3.	Progesterone
4.	Growth Hormone

Increasing estrogen is the first step towards a more feminine figure. Not only is estrogen the most important hormone involved in breast development, it also causes your testosterone level to lower - another big plus for breast growth.

Prolactin is a breast enlarging hormone naturally produced by adolescent girls during puberty. This hormone helps develop the mammary glands and increases fat storage in the breasts.

Another must for breast growth is progesterone. Progesterone promotes gland formation and is necessary for complete breast development in males.

The final hormone involved in breast development is growth hormone. Growth hormone is produced in large amounts by both males and females during puberty and assists with the growth of the entire body, including the breasts.

Fortunately, it is possible for males to boost these essential breast enlarging hormones naturally, using a combination of herbs, massage, and other natural techniques. Best of all, these techniques carry none of the risks associated with synthetic hormones and are every bit as effective!

Bottom line: no matter which male breast enlargement method you choose, be sure to take all four essential breast enlarging hormones into consideration!

There has been a growing debate over whether or not alternative medicine is effective. While it has not been scientifically proven to heal illnesses, it has been known to work for many people.

And because of this, the various treatments continue to grow in popularity. Here are 5 types of alternative medicine you may find yourself needing in the future.

1. Acupuncture
Acupuncture can be done for a number of different conditions. The treatment consists of placing fine needles into the body at various points along the body?s energy channels. It has been found to be a promising treatment for dental pain and nausea for chemo. Additionally, it is used to treat arthritis and back pain, but has not been proven to help either of these conditions.

2. Biofeedback
This is one of the more controversial alternative medicine treatments because of the effects it has on the mind. It is a procedure in which electronic monitors help train a patient to use the mind to relax and control pain. Throughout the procedure, the heart rate, blood pressure, and muscle tensions are measured. It has been found to help patients with back pains, headaches, fibromyalgia, and muscle pains.

3. Chiropractic
Chiropractic has become perhaps the most practiced alternative medicine out. There are thousands of chiropractic offices where a patient can go in and get adjusted and be on their way. Chiropractic is a system of spinal adjustments or manipulations that help correct misalignment of the vertebrae. It can be helpful for back pains, neck pains, headaches, sports injuries and anything else related to the spinal cord.

4. Hypnosis
This is a practice that induces an intense state of focused attention with the hope that the subconscious mind becomes more powerful. There is some solid evidence that this alternative medicine treatment can reduce pain and anxiety. It can also assist in relieving chronic pain, severe burns, and disorders that are worsened by stress.

5. Magnet therapy
Magnet therapy is done by placing magnets on the body to stimulate circulation and increase the release of the body?s own-relieving chemicals. There is little evidence that can prove that this method really does work. However, there are a number of athletes that are adamant that this treatment works.

For now, many alternative medicine treatments do not have concrete evidence that they do work effectively. Despite this, many of the methods continue to grow in popularity and more and more people every year are turning to alternative medicine to treat their illnesses.

Generally, hyperacidity is a condition caused by the excessive formation of acid in the stomach, in which patient feels a burning sensation. In order to understand the cause of this, it is necessary to know that the stomach produces a number of juices that are necessary for digestion.

One of them is a dilute form of hydrochloric acid, which is needed to break down complex foods such as proteins. Indigestion is frequently caused by the consumption of over-large meals particularly when these are of fatty nature. Globules of excess fat, not being digested in the stomach, are inclined to coat other food and slow down the digestive process. This causes the stomach to supply more digestive juices, including acid, with resulting discomfort caused by gas formation.

Common Causes of Hyperacidity

There could be a lot reasons or causes for the flare-up of hyperacidity. It could be idiopathic, or arising from an unknown cause. The flare-up of hyperacidity could also be related to some behavioral or diet factors, such as prolonged ingestion of aspirin or some anti-inflammatory drug, prolonged alcohol ingestion, eating spicy and highly seasoned food like chilly, pickles, etc. Stress could also be an important cause for hyperacidity as well as heavy smoking.

Common Symptoms of Hyperacidity

The most common symptoms of hyperacidity are : A steady pain of short duration in upper abdomen immediately following a large or spicy meal or aspirin ingestion; Nausea, vomiting, and loss of desire to eat which may persist for 1-2 days; Heartburn or sour belching; Early repletion or satiety after meals; A sense of abdominal distension or ‘bloating’; Flatulence (burping, belching); Vomiting of blood or blood in stools.

Effective Herbal Remedies For Hyperacidity

There are a lot of suggested herbal concoctions and remedies for naturally curing hyperacidity. Here are three popular and effective methods for treating this condition:

- Carrot and Cabbage juice. To prepare, wash and slice in small pieces one big carrot and 1/4 kilo cabbage. Osterize the carrots and cabbage with 2 glasses of water. Strain and add 1 tablespoon sugar. Adding sugar is optional. Keep the mixture in the refrigerator to cool, and be sure to prepare for one day’s supply only. Drink one glass of the carrot and cabbage juice 30 minutes before meals, and when there is gastric pain.

- Olive oil. Take one teaspoon of olive oil 30 minutes before meals for severe symptoms.

Do this only when there are symptoms, since olive oil may increase cholesterol blood level.

- Peppermint. Although there are more than 30 species of mint, peppermint is one of the most popular, with its purple-laced stems and bright green leaves. Peppermint is widely utilized as a food, flavoring and disinfectant. As a medicine, peppermint is famous for its effects on the stomach and intestines.

Peppermint is a tasty way to relieve gas, nausea, and stomach pain due to an irritable bowel, intestinal cramps, or indigestion. Peppermint is a carminative, or an agent that dispels gas and bloating in the digestive system and an antispasmodic capable of relieving stomach and intestinal cramps. Peppermint can be used for too much stomach acid (hyperacidity) and gastroenteritis, and it is safe for infants with colic.

As a hypnotherapist and NLP Master practitioner, it gives me great joy to be able to share with you one of the most commonly used and simple techniques.

The way it is explained to you below, is exactly the way I use it, and by following the simple steps below you can achieve instant access to positive feelings and emotions.

Anchoring is a valuable tool used by hypnotherapists and NLP Practitioners. It is one of the simplest techniques available and can create massive and powerful changes of state in another person in an instant.

Just imagine having access to your most resourceful state- confidence, creativity, motivation, relaxation, power- at the touch of a button.

1. Why use Anchoring?

Anchoring is an NLP technique used to move a client very quickly, into a positive resourceful state (emotion). This could be used to get someone into a confident state when giving a presentation or perhaps a relaxed state when confronting a fear or phobia or to give instant motivation when faced with a challenge.

2. What is an Anchor?

An Anchor is an internal state which is triggered by an external stimulus. For example, have you even caught a whiff of someone’s perfume and been reminded of someone that you know, and had an experience of feeling all of the feelings that you have towards that person? Or perhaps you’ve heard a song that has, literally, in your mind, taken you back momentarily to a time in the past or a specific event?

The Anchors we create when using NLP and hypnotherapy and Kinaesthetic anchors (the positive internal feeling is triggered by a touch).

3. How do you create a Positive Resource Anchor?

Recall a time in the past when you have felt the way you want to feel when your Anchor is fired. As you vividly remember that time, remembering everything you saw as if you were seeing it again, back through your own eyes, hear what you heard and feel the feeling you had at that time.
When the feeling is at its strongest, “anchor” it by making a gesture, or gently pressing or squeezing an appropriate and accessible part of your body, e.g. making a fist, pushing the palm of your hand etc.
Break your state by jiggling your body or moving in some way then repeat the above using a different and equally positive memory from the past, then anchor that. Repeat this several times to make the anchor strong.
Then test how strong your anchor is by breaking your state and then firing it off. Notice how great you feel!

4. What if…..? Your questions answered!

If your anchor is weak, try anchoring more vividly remembered times. Make sure you really put yourself into the state and remember to apply the anchor at the peak of the good feeling.

Apply you anchor in a unique place/ way. You wouldn’t want to have an anchor for elated joy by shaking your hand as this might not be an appropriate state to go into each time someone shakes your hand! Your anchor must also be located somewhere upon you that is easy for you to repeat and fire off later, without making you look suspicious in front of others!

What if I work in a business setting, how could this be used?
Anchors don’t have to be created and triggered by a touch. You could use your voice in a certain way every time you want to get others into a motivated state or perhaps Anchor key words, such as trust, to yourself, when selling your product in a presentation. So verbally you are saying to your customers that they can trust the product you are selling, but you anchor the word “trust” to yourself.

There are many other techniques involved when creating major lasting changes in people?s lives. For more information about what these are and how they can be used to tackle specific problems, visit the link below and get in touch.

Acupuncture is one of the oldest, most commonly used medical procedures in the world. Originating in China more than 2,000 years ago, it is used extensively in Traditional Chinese Medicine and has proven to provide pain relief, ease suffering, and reduce tension and stress.

Looking at the popularity of acupuncture, many insurance companies have started to recognize it as a Complimentary Alternative Medicine and are offering this treatment within their health plans.

Today the world is moving at a very fast pace and there is very little to no free time available for the individual. To remain fit and healthy has become a real challenge. Most of us often suffer stress related problems like the nausea, back pain, lethargy etc. There are prescribed medications available to assist with the symptoms but the available medications are not free from their own form of side effects. It is not always practically possible to go to work suffering from drowsiness or lethargy caused by the commercial medications for example. To avoid this situation there are only two ways available, one take time off work which is not possible on regular basis or the second is to bear the sufferings of the pain or the disease and keep on working, which is not possible for long periods. For these very reasons people started hunting for the alternative remedies and thus acupuncture gained its relevance and importance in the modern world.

In the Chinese language acupuncture is known as zhen jiu. Acupuncture is actually the technique of restoring the health and treating pain and diseases by inserting tubular needles into the different vantage points of the body known as the acupuncture point. Acupuncture works on the principle that nature flows within the human body and it is controlled by the vital life energy termed as Qi (pronounced chee). This energy, or life force, circulates around the body through invisible channels called meridians. If the flow of Qi in the meridians is disrupted, then disease may follow. By inserting fine needles into particular acupuncture points, the disruption can be corrected and the flow of Qi restored. To begin with, the acupuncturist questions the patient about the ailment and various other relevant facts and also performs a physical examination of the patient before starting the acupuncture treatment.

Acupuncture needles are metallic, solid, and hair-thin. People experience acupuncture differently, but most feel no or minimal pain as the needles are inserted. Some people are energized by treatment, while others feel relaxed. Depending on the location of the treatment, the patient will either sit or lie down. Properly done, acupuncture is painless because the needles are very fine (around 0.2mm in width). Once inserted, the patient may feel mild tingling around the site, warmth or heaviness, or even nothing at all.

An acupuncturist may use other techniques including:

1. Cupping - suction designed to bring Qi and blood to the acupuncture point.

2. Chinese herbs - either mixed by the acupuncturist or in pre-prepared tablet or granulated form.

3. Laser - used instead of the needles to activate acupuncture points.

4. TCM remedial massage - techniques applied to specific acupuncture points or meridians.

5. Moxibustion - burning herbs held over or applied to acupuncture points.

Does acupuncture hurt? That is the most common question asked.
The whole process may be termed as a painless process but the degree of pain bearing differs from person to person. Most of the patients have stated that there is virtually no pain at all or it is very minimal, like the pain you suffer while plucking hair. The other thing to keep in mind is that the treatment as a whole also depends upon the expertise of the acupuncturist. It should be made clear that acupuncture may not provide instant relief from the ailment or that only one visit to the acupuncturist would suffice. Factors to consider is the severity of the ailment and also that the degree of recovery differs from person to person. Acupuncture is an alternative remedy so many people do not rely on the procedure completely. Some patients do report a noticeable difference with one visit to the acupuncturist, but usually it takes many visits to get satisfactory improvement.

Pharmaceutical companies are churning out drugs and medicines for possibly all ailments and diseases to meet the requirements of the people wanting a ?quick fix?, but where is the warning about the dangerous side effects that these drugs and medications bring along with them? We have mentioned the side effects of the commercial drugs and other medications so it is practically correct to ask about the side effects of acupuncture. There is a risk of negative side effects from acupuncture, but the quantum of the risk is very low compared to the alternate commercial remedies. The main side effects of this process is due to the improper sterilization of the used needles or placing the needles too deep in the body which can cause small bleeds, dizziness etc. These things happen when any poorly trained acupuncturist handles the patient. Therefore it is very important for you to go to a qualified acupuncturist and for the purpose it may require you to research as you do before going to the physician or the dentist.

Whether or not you believe in the philosophy of Qi makes no difference to the effects of acupuncture. Scientific trials around the world have found that acupuncture is a safe and useful treatment for many different disorders. Acupuncture is certainly worth a try. It offers relatively very low risk of side effects and may assist in reducing independence from the load of the commercial drugs and medications available. It is definitely worth a try.
